This weeks gift was a mystery. Last week I received a message to say that a new bub had been born to a family in year 3 at my kids school and would I like to be a part of the Food Tree? My answer was of course yes. Food trees are famous in this town, however I have never been a part of one. If you aren’t familiar with a food tree, it is when individuals in the community allocate a different day each and cook for someone in the community who is in need. It is most commonly used for new mums & bubs, as well as people who are unwell. Needless to say this is right up my alley.

I had not been in to school lately so I did not know who I was cooking for, I was purely given an address and allocated a day, so last Thursday, I cooked and went to said address and tentatively knocked on the door. After no answer, I placed the basket of goodies on the doorstep and hoped they would open the door at some point and find my care package. I dropped it off in my lunch break as I would have been too late if I waited until after work.

I did do a drive by after work and the basket was gone, so I hoped at the time that hopefully they enjoyed the delivery. I have since received a lovely thank you card from the family, totally unexpected and it made my day.

Menu du jour
Poached chicken with soba noodles and an Asian broth
Sweet treat
Gingernut cookies
*I also popped in a very cute little hand knitted cardigan that I found at a local op shop. I believe an elderly member of the community knits things for them to sell.
